Victorian 14K Gold and Banded Agate Pendant Necklace
Antique necklace made with solid 14K gold and banded agate pendant and later "double" chain.
19th Century, Victorian era.
A beautifully composed necklace featuring an authentic Victorian pendant (circa late 19th century), finely crafted in 14k yellow gold and set with richly patterned banded agate.
The pendant showcases an oval agate plaque surmounted by three elongated, faceted drops, each capped in gold. The agate's natural hues - soft cream, caramel, and smoky brown - form graceful, horizontal bands that seem to capture a miniature landscape within the stone.
The pendant is suspended from a later "double" chain, meaning the chain is gold-filled rather than solid gold: a layer of real gold mechanically bonded to a core metal, offering the beauty and durability of gold at a fraction of its cost. The combination of the antique pendant and the later chain is both elegant and practical, perfectly balanced for modern wear.
A quietly poetic piece. Agate was believed to bring calm, grounding, and protection, and its luminous transparency still evokes a sense of inner balance today.
Pendant measures ca 49 x 20 mm. The oval agate measuring ca. 18 x 12mm, each drop ca. 34mm long.
Chain length: 16.9" - 43 cm
