Antique Victorian Raj Baculum Brooch, 9k Rose Gold
Antique Victorian brooch crafted in 9k rose gold, featuring a baculum mounted as the central element.
1800s, Victorian age.
Ok, I know this is a weird one!
The bone you see mounted on gold is a "baculum": the penile bone of a tiger. In the 19th century, and especially in England, pieces like this were true conversation objects, sitting somewhere between jewelry and cabinet-of-curiosities artefacts.
In this piece, the bone has been elegantly fitted with two rose gold mounts and a brooch pin along the reverse. The natural curvature of the baculum creates a striking organic form, both sculptural and minimalist.
Measures ca. 75 c 30 mm
Weight: 4 grams.
Very good antique condition.
