Antique Edwardian 800 Silver Sautoir Necklace: 61" Long Guard Chain
Antique extra-long necklace made with solid silver in the early 1900s, Edwardian Age.
This is a very beautiful example of "sautoir" necklace. Popular in the 18th century in France, and then again in the 1920s and 1930s, especially among the flapper girls, sautoirs were particularly fashionable during the Edwardian and Art Deco periods, worn as long necklaces, often doubled or layered for an elegant draped effect.
This sautoir is made up of geometric elements alternating with decorative beaded elements. While not fully geometric, the elongated elements and symmetrical arrangement suggest an early Art Deco sensibility.
The weight and structure give it a solid, high-quality feel, making it not only an elegant statement piece but also a practical and enduring heirloom. A gorgeous, one of a kind piece!
Dog clip and bolt ring clasp. Hallmarked "800" (shown in one of the pictures) and tested as silver.
Length: ca. 61.4" (156 cm).
Weight: 23.9 grams
Very good antique condition, with signs of time and use to be expected in an antique piece of jewelry. Please refer to the pictures and video as they are part of the description, and feel free to reach out with any questions.
