French Antique 18k Gold & Diamond “Toile de Digne” Star Brooch – c. 1880
Antique French brooch crafted with solid 18k Gold and diamonds.
c. 1880, Victorian age.
This piece belongs to the tradition of “toile de Digne” jewellery, a distinctive regional technique originating from Digne-les-Bains in Provence during the 19th century.
Each arm of the star features a raised diamond-set rosette, all arranged around a central old-cut diamond. The settings are rendered in a cool silver tone, typical for the period to enhance the brilliance of diamonds, contrasting elegantly with the warm 18k gold structure below.
The reverse shows the French eagle’s head hallmark, confirming 18k gold (750/1000), along with a fine openwork gallery.
It can be worn as a brooch or adapted by your jeweller as a pendant.
A refined and collectible example of Provençal jewellery heritage.
Diameter: approx. 29 × 29 mm — 1.14 × 1.14 inches
Weight: 4.4 g
Very good antique condition. Minor age-appropriate wear but no repairs or losses. The structure is crisp, the openwork gallery intact, and all diamonds securely set.
