Antique brooch hand crafted with solid 9k gold and hard stones.
Scotland, early 1900s, Edwardian age.

This brooch made with scrumpalicious semi precious stones represents a Claymore sword, a type of large sword that was used by Highland Scots from the 15th to the 17th centuries. The stones are set in beautifully engraved gold, with great attention to detail.
The blade is made with moss agate, while the basket hilt of the sword handle encloses a vivid red cabochon, possibly a jasper.

As always, it was Queen Victoria who started the trend of the "Scottish Pebble", when she acquired Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

I love the intriguing translucency of moss agate and the meticulous hand engraving on the gold on this brooch, which can be worn as a lapel pin, but also hung on a chain as a pendant.

This piece is clearly symbolic, it expresses the strength and courage of the ancient Highlanders: wearing it can be a good reminder of our own strength, for when we need it.

Measures: ca. 5.3 x 1 cm (2 x 0.4 inches)

Weight: 3.06 grams

Very good antique condition, with signs of time and use to be expected in an antique jewel.
