Antique 18k Gold Ring with Synthetic Aquamarine

Antique ring crafted with solid 18k gold, silver and synthetic aquamarine.

Italy, ca. 1930s.

How exceptional is the craftsmanship of this ring! The openwork gallery is richly sculpted with floral and foliate motifs, creating an architectural structure around the stone. The goldwork shows a level of hand-carving and detail that is rarely encountered today and would be impossible to reproduce with modern manufacturing techniques. Even the shoulders of the shank are finely engraved with leaf patterns, a testament to the skill and patience of the goldsmith who created it nearly a century ago.

The stone, cut in a rounded cushion shape, is luminous and sparkling. Synthetic stones were a surprising novelty during the Art Deco period and were often admired for their clarity and brilliance. It is telling that this aquamarine was given such a special mounting.

The head of the ring measures ca. 17.2 x 14.6 mm

The stone measures ca. 11.5 x 8.5 mm

US size: 4 1/4 Small size, suitable for slender fingers, and also beautiful worn as a pinky ring.

Weight: 3.3 grams
